A trio of Halls Creek District High School graduates are making their community proud as they pursue university education in Perth.

Sophia Gumpoltsberger, who finished school last year, and 2015 graduates Emily Alec and Blanci Anderson were in Halls Creek recently preparing for their classes down south.

Senior school co-ordinator Shannon Holder said the girls had gained a lot from their association with the Aspire Program and St Catherine’s College’s True Blue Dreaming Indigenous Mentoring Program which were run out of the University of Western Australia.

“The girls have had the opportunity to travel to Perth and have had mentors come to the Kimberley to visit with them and these visits and relationships have helped to pave the way to a tertiary education,” she said. “We’re definitely really proud. They’ve met other students who have come from similar places to them and seen their successes and that’s inspired them I think.”

Ms Holder said Ms Gumpoltsberger worked hard last year to complete a couple of Certificate IIs and got good grades.

She said Ms Alec and Ms Anderson had both been dedicated to finishing high school when they were in Halls Creek.

Ms Anderson is hoping to achieve her Certificate IV in Indigenous Primary Healthcare course at Marr Mooditj and Ms Alec is attending Curtin University in the Indigenous Tertiary Enabling Course before eventually moving into sports science.

Ms Gumpoltsberger is doing an Aboriginal Orientation Course at UWA and is interested in further studies in science.
